Round tables

Colloquium "Participation in a world of communication" - 12th and 13th September 2019 - Round tables, Thursday 12th September, 16:00 - 18:30

As part of the scientific conference "Participation in a world of communication", two round tables are organized Thursday, September 12 afternoon. The aim is to improve dialogue between researchers and professional actors of participation, in economic and political contexts.

Participation in the round tables is free, but registration is mandatory by sending an email to andrea.catellani@uclouvain.be

Program:

1) Participation in a political context. Thursday, 12 September, 16:00-17:00

Location: Innoviris, Chaussée de Charleroi 110, Brussels (travel time from the conference venue is provided for those attending the whole day of the conference). Speakers:

Delphine Mendel, head of the social cohesion department, and Thierry Van Campenhout, alderman in Saint-Gilles - Municipality of Saint-Gilles

Delphine Mendel is the head of the cabinet of the alderman Thierry Van Campenhout in Saint-Gilles. This last one is in charge of employment and training, social cohesion, city policy, local events, and tourism. Under the previous legislature, he also had the portfolio of citizen participation. Together, they worked on the "G1060 Ideas", an initiative that aimed to allow citizens to share their original and innovative ideas and to reflect together on the future of Saint-Gilles, thus ensuring the participation of the most large number to the life of the commune.

Constantin Lazarou and Filis Zumbultas (the second to be confirmed) - Brussels Participation & Brussels Smart City

Constantin Lazarou is a communication associate at Brussels Participation, the City of Brussels' service in charge of citizen participation. In 2018, this service set up a participatory budget initiative with the inhabitants of the City of Brussels. Filis Zumbultas (to be confirmed) is coordinator of Smart City Brussels. The Brussels Participations and Smart City Brussels services regularly cooperate on participatory projects in the city.

Julien Joxe - Citizen Lab

Julien Joxe joined in 2017 the start-up CitizenLab. Based in Brussels, we are passionate and convinced of the potential of digital tools to improve representative democracy. CitizenLab is a ready-to-use citizen consultation platform for local communities. Since its creation in 2015, CitizenLab has worked with more than 100 cities and towns of all sizes around the world.

Anthony Naralingom - Coordinator Circular Economy - Hub.brussels

Coordinator of the Brussels cluster CircleMade.Brussels, which brings together innovative companies focused on a circular economy, Anthony Naralingom is coordinator of the Regional Program on Circular Economy at Hub.Brussels. Based on his experience on the ground, he will share his vision of participation with a view to a more sustainable future in Brussels.

Suzana Koelet (Scientific Advisor) and Jérémy Levin (Coordinator of Strategic Research & Sustainability) - Innoviris

As a regional organization for research and innovation, Innoviris' mission is to connect various actors with a view to contributing to the development of the Brussels-Capital Region. Members of the Strategic Research Cell within Innoviris, Jérémy Levin and Suzana Koelet have an important knowledge of the economic terrain. Their intervention will give us a more precise vision of participation at the Brussels level.

Quentin Mortier (Coordinator) - SAW-B

Graduate in sociology and public and international affairs, Quentin Mortier has held various positions in the field of social economy. After working for many years for the Terre Group, he later joined SAW-B, the active social economy federation in Brussels and Wallonia. Currently coordinator of the "Studies and animations" division, Quentin Mortier is the author of numerous publications on the theme of the social economy and more specifically of participation. He is also a founding member of an energy citizen cooperative. He observed, commented on, implemented and experienced multiple participatory social enterprise processes.
